Background of World Book Day

UNESCO, an acronym for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, has been committed to fostering mutual understanding and promoting cooperation globally through education, sciences, culture, communication, and information. World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, was created by UNESCO on April 23, 1995, to promote the joys of reading. Since then the World Book Day is celebrated on April 23 every year. The date was chosen because it was the birth or death anniversaries of several prominent authors such as William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vegam.

As a member of the library industry, the STL Law Library would love to take the responsibility to promote the enjoyment of books and reading! The Law Library has subscribed to the Oxford Academic eBook platform and would like to share the helpful collection with our STLers.
